Amman: Interior Minister Mazen Farraya on Wednesday announced that the disbanded group known as the Muslim Brotherhood will be considered an illegal society effective immediately, in accordance with the law.
According to Jordan News Agency, the minister stated that all activities of any kind by this group will be banned and considered illegal, subject to legal accountability. Farraya highlighted that the work of the committee overseeing the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood and the confiscation of its moveable and immovable assets will be expedited, following relevant court rulings.
The minister emphasized that membership in this disbanded group is illegal, and promoting its ideology will also be subject to legal action. Furthermore, any offices or headquarters used by the group around Jordan will be closed down, even if such venues are set up under the guise of other entities, with any contrary actions facing legal consequences.
Farraya stressed that political entities, media outlets, social media users, civil society organizations, and other entities are prohibited from dealing with or publishing anything by the Muslim Brotherhood or its affiliates, subject to legal accountability. Necessary measures will be taken against any individual or entity involved in criminal acts connected to ongoing court cases or the disbanded group, in light of court findings.
The minister revealed that the group attempted to smuggle and destroy large quantities of documents from its headquarters to hide suspicious activities and affiliations on the same night authorities disclosed a plot targeting national security. Following the announcement of foiling this plot, security agencies uncovered an operation to manufacture and test explosives by the son of one of the group's leaders, targeting security agencies and sensitive sites in Jordan.
Today's decisions, Farraya stated, were made to ensure society's safety and prevent actions disturbing security and public order while safeguarding Jordan's stability. Despite the state's historical protection of political freedoms, elements of the Muslim Brotherhood have been secretly working to undermine stability, security, and national unity.
The minister asserted that no state can accept the revealed actions involving explosives and weapons being moved through cities, stored within residential neighborhoods, and rockets being manufactured and concealed in the capital's suburbs. These activities pose a significant threat to society and endanger citizens' lives, at a time when the state seeks to maintain security and stability amid regional and global challenges.
Farraya reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring freedom of expression and political activity under relevant laws, while preventing any activities that jeopardize Jordan's security and stability. He emphasized the importance of concerted efforts to fulfill the aspirations of the Jordanian people.
In his statement, Farraya affirmed that Islamic Sharia is rooted in tolerance, stressing that moderation is the core principle of believers in Islam, whereas extremism and fanaticism lead to chaos, violence, and societal division.
