Amman, The Telecommunications and Information Technology (ICT) sector maintained in 2022 the positive performance and achievements that were made over the past years despite crises, according to experts and members of the Board of Directors of the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan (int@j).

Int@j said in a statement Saturday that 2022 could be the year of entrepreneurship and excellence of Jordanian startups, particularly after the launch of the Jordanian Entrepreneurship Ecosystem and Jordan Startup Map which targets 450 startups spread over 21 sectors.

Int@j Board of Directors Chairman Eid Sweis said the ITC sector pursues a “positive and balanced” job as it aims to raise exports to about$1 billion in the coming years if government incentives continue.

He pointed out that many ICT companies posted remarkable growth in 2022, especially those that provide outsourcing services to companies that newly entered the market, or through existing companies, or those that added outsourcing as a new service.

Sweis stressed the importance of introducing 5G services to the Kingdom, thanks to telecom companies’ support, calling for speeding up the selection of equipment provider to start developing networks towards a faster service.

He also pointed to tangible steps taken in support of cybersecurity in Jordan, especially in the legal aspect, and work on the artificial intelligence strategy, the personal data protection draft and other laws and regulations.

Majed-Sifri, Int@j board member and CEO of Optimiza, said that the crises that the world went through in the past years, namely Covid-19 as well as political and economic crises, proved the strength of the information technology sector due to various solutions it offered that meet the requirements of most sectors, improve their situation and ensure their continuity.

He said the local ITC sector’s performance in 2022 was “good” as it witnessed growth despite global and health crises, explaining that crises were behild growth due to the increase in digital services users at the governmental or individual levels.

Sifri pointed to a high demand in Jordan and regional countries for information technology solutions and tools as governments seek to implement digital transformation strategies, which raised demand for Jordanian digital business solutions.
