Amman: The Joint International Conference on Obstetrics and Gynecology opened Thursday in Amman, organized by the Representative Committee of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in Jordan, Palestine, and Syria.
According to Jordan News Agency, the event is held in cooperation with the Jordanian Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (JSOG) and the Jordanian-British Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Mazen El Zibdeh, head of the RCOG representative body in Jordan, stated that the two-day scientific program covers the latest developments in oncology, infertility, maternal-fetal medicine, urogynecology, endometriosis, and laparoscopic and robotic surgery. A pre-conference workshop was conducted on ultrasound diagnosis of ovarian masses.
Participants include RCOG President Ranee Thakar, First Vice President Hassan Shehata, and former President of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) Gamal Serour. Abeer Annab, President of the JSOG, emphasized Jordan's role in regional and international medical education, highlighting the association's dedication to fostering platforms that bring global expertise closer to healthcare providers in the Kingdom.
Maher Maaytah, President of the Jordanian-British Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, expressed that the conference aims to familiarize physicians, especially young practitioners, with the latest scientific advancements in the field. The event includes 32 lectures and research papers presented by experts from Jordan, the United Kingdom, and Egypt, with participation from doctors across Jordan, Palestine, and Syria.
The conference addresses developments in the early diagnosis of gynecological cancers and surgical treatments using laparoscopic and robotic technologies. Sessions also explore topics related to fertility, in vitro fertilization (IVF), women's health, obesity, and pregnancy complications such as recurrent miscarriage and preterm birth.
Additionally, a panel discussion on the rising rates of cesarean sections in Jordan and globally is moderated by El Zibdeh, featuring leading experts in the field. On the sidelines, a workshop on advances in ultrasound imaging for early detection of ovarian tumors was held, alongside the inauguration of a medical exhibition with participation from several pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies.
