IOM Reports Tragic Loss of Life After Migrant Boat Sinks Off Yemen

Amman: At least 56 people, including 14 women, have died following the sinking of a migrant boat off Yemen's coast, as reported by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). This tragic event occurred two days ago, adding to the growing concerns over the safety of irregular migration routes.

According to Jordan News Agency, the IOM's statement revealed that many of the victims are believed to be Ethiopian nationals. The rescue operation has so far saved 12 survivors, all of whom are male.

The IOM has highlighted this incident as a stark reminder of the urgent need to address the perils associated with irregular migration along the eastern route. The organisation is calling for immediate life-saving assistance and protection for those migrants who are most vulnerable while advocating for comprehensive strategies to address the root causes of irregular migration.
