Irbid: The Greater Irbid Municipality has identified a leak in an aging sewage main as the cause of a partial road collapse on Islamabad Street. The municipality announced on Saturday that it is working closely with the Yarmouk Water Company to address the issue and prevent further incidents.
According to Jordan News Agency, Ghaith Al-Tall, the spokesperson for the municipality, stated that technical teams are actively involved in monitoring maintenance efforts alongside relevant authorities. The Yarmouk Water Company has already directed a contractor to begin immediate repairs on the affected section to ensure public safety and restore normal traffic flow.
Al-Tall emphasized that the municipality's key responsibility is to oversee the rehabilitation of the site and expedite the repair process. He pointed out that the deteriorating sewage network has been a recurring problem, with the municipality previously issuing warnings after similar road subsidence incidents in the area.
The Yarmouk Water Company, as reported by Al-Tall, has pledged to launch a project aimed at completely replacing the pipeline in the near future as a permanent solution. In the interim, the municipality has implemented public safety measures by cordoning off the affected area until repairs commence.
