Beirut: The Israeli army launched airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Thursday despite an existing ceasefire, according to local media. The state news agency NNA reported that Israeli warplanes struck the Al-Khanouk area of the Aitaroun municipality in the Nabatieh district using air-to-surface missiles. Additionally, warplanes targeted the western outskirts of Tayr Falsay in Tyre, striking the area twice.
According to Anadolu Agency, an Israeli drone targeted a car near the Sheikh Ragheb Harb Hospital in Toul town, coinciding with peak school-dismissal traffic. The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed that one civilian was injured in the attack but did not provide details on the severity of the injuries.
The Israeli army stated that it had struck a weapons storage facility and two infrastructure sites utilized by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. There has been no immediate response from Lebanese authorities or Hezbollah regarding these claims.
Tensions have been rising in southern Lebanon for several weeks, with the Israeli army increasing its air raids allegedly aimed at Hezbollah members and infrastructure. Since the beginning of the offensive in October 2023, the Israeli army has reportedly killed over 4,000 people and injured nearly 17,000 in Lebanon.
Under the ceasefire agreement established in November 2024, the Israeli army was obligated to withdraw from southern Lebanon by January. However, they have only partially withdrawn, continuing to maintain a military presence at five border outposts.
