Israeli Democrats Leader Warns of Potential Netanyahu Strategy Amid Iran Conflict

Jerusalem:Israeli Democrats leader Yair Golan has issued a warning that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might use a potential new military attack on Iran as a means to remain in power, amid the ongoing political uncertainty following recent elections.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Golan expressed concerns on the social media platform X, highlighting the increasing likelihood of another conflict with Iran. He criticized Netanyahu's handling of repeated conflicts with Iran, suggesting it reflects a failure of leadership.

The remarks from Golan come in the context of reports in Israeli and US media indicating the possibility of Israel, with support from Washington, launching an attack on Iran after the US midterm elections. Golan questioned Netanyahu's moral legitimacy and capacity to lead another military engagement with Iran.

Golan emphasized the need for an alternative government, pointing out the potential risks to Israel's security under Netanyahu's leadership. He stressed the urgency of forming a new government, citing the country's security and citizens' safety as paramount concerns.

The call for political change follows inconclusive election results, where neither Netanyahu's bloc nor the opposition parties secured the necessary seats to form a government. Preliminary results showed Netanyahu's bloc winning 53 seats, Jewish opposition parties 48 seats, and Palestinian parties 19 seats, all falling short of the 61 seats needed for a majority.

In addition to the political turmoil, Netanyahu is currently facing an ongoing corruption trial with charges that include bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. Furthermore, he has been wanted by the International Criminal Court since 2024 for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians during the conflict in Gaza.
