Aberdeenshire: Earning a first DP World Tour win in 14 years—and effectively saving his career—was enough to shake the composure of most golfers. For Scott Jamieson, however, the moment became even more surreal as he found himself on a video call with President Donald Trump after ending his title drought at the Nexo Championship.
According to BBC, it has become customary for the United States president to contact the winner at Trump International Golf Links immediately following their success. This time, the honor fell to the 42-year-old Glaswegian, who followed in the footsteps of compatriot Grant Forrest, the previous year's recipient of the presidential call.
"He was very complimentary and it sounds like he was actually watching it," Jamieson shared with BBC Sport Scotland. "He said he was following along, so it was really cool... I mean, he is the President of the United States."
Jamieson's ability to maintain composure during the tense final holes speaks volumes about his resolve. The Scot delivered a final round of 67, overcoming a three-shot deficit to surpass England's overnight leader Matthew Jordan by two strokes. Jamieson concluded the championship at 11 under par, pulling ahead after then-leader Shaun Norris from South Africa received a peculiar two-shot penalty for displacing a loose divot on the fairway.
This victory marks Jamieson's second DP World Tour triumph, with his previous win dating back to the 2012 Nelson Mandela Championship. With his playing rights secured for the next season, Jamieson no longer faces the looming threat of losing his tour card.
"I didn't realize it had been 14 years," he admitted. "I practice every day and explore different ways to get better, and sometimes it feels like you're just banging your head against a wall. So the odd win here and there makes it all worthwhile."
As Jamieson reflects on his victory, he remains optimistic about the future. "There have been times where I've thought I might be losing my job here, so thankfully I don't need to worry about that over the next few weeks. And hopefully, this may open up some doors to kick on and try and push up the ladder."
While defending champion Forrest faced a challenging Sunday, finishing with a score of 80 and a total of 10 over, fellow Scots Euan Walker and Connor Syme were among those sharing 10th place on four under.
