Jerash Farmers Express Concern Over Fig Yield as Heat Wave Hits Production

Jerash: Agricultural authorities are closely monitoring this season's fig harvest following farmer reports that extreme heat and changing weather conditions could harm crop yields, official sources said Saturday.

According to Jordan News Agency, Director of the Jerash Agriculture Department Ola Mahasneh stated that agricultural extension officers are tracking observations from local growers. She noted that prevailing climate conditions and rising temperatures may impact production volume, with varying effects depending on the region and fig variety.

Agricultural extension teams are providing farmers with technical advice and guidance on protective measures and proper agricultural practices at appropriate times, Mahasneh added.

Local farmers expressed concern over potential declines in fig production, citing rising costs for irrigation, tree maintenance, and crop monitoring. They emphasized that the fig harvest serves as a crucial source of income for many rural families in the region.
