Jerash: The ancient city of Jerash is gearing up to host large public screenings of the Jordan national football team's match against Argentina at three significant archaeological sites. This event marks Jordan's historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup.
According to Jordan News Agency, three giant screens will be set up at the North Theatre, South Theatre, and the Oval Plaza to broadcast the match for fans gathered at the historic site. The Ministry of Youth, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Ministry of Government Communication, the Jordan Tourism Board, and Jerash Municipality, is organizing this event. It forms part of a broader national effort to hold screenings across the Kingdom.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 28, with gates opening at 3 a.m. to allow early entry. Officials emphasized that the screenings are a continuation of public engagement from previous matches. They highlight the "strong" national support for the team and strengthen the connection between sporting achievement and national identity.
Officials also noted that holding the screenings in Jerash's archaeological setting aims to promote Jordan's cultural heritage globally and aid tourism promotion through high-visibility public gatherings.
Organizers have confirmed that security and logistical arrangements are complete, including crowd control measures, designated entry and exit routes, and strict adherence to capacity limits at all locations. Authorities have urged the public to arrive early, avoid overcrowding, and help preserve the archaeological site. Fans are encouraged to carry national flags and traditional symbols to show support for the team.
