The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has implemented measures to nullify the trading permits of three dietary supplement products that were advertised on social media platforms using fraudulent assertions. In an official statement released on Thursday, JFDA Director-General Nizar Muhaidat emphasized that the products were additionally marketed and sold in violation of the regulations, without acquiring the mandatory special food advertisement permits. "The product known as 'Urotrin 20 Capsules' was improperly marketed, making false claims about its potency as a treatment for sexual dysfunction and prostatitis, which goes against the approved product declaration card and the product approval letter. These documents specifically relate to the authorized usage of the product for urinary health," he stated. Regarding the product "Difort Advanced 20 Capsules," Muhaidat clarified that it was advertised and promoted inappropriately, falsely claiming to control blood sugar levels, regulate glucose levels, and prevent vision problems, hair loss, and urinary issues. However, the approved product declaration card states that its purpose is to support sugar metabolism. Additionally, the product "Tonor Mix Advanced 20 Capsules" was approved for supporting sugar metabolism, but it was falsely promoted with claims of stabilizing blood pressure, maintaining normal cholesterol levels, and providing energy and vitality. Muhaidat noted that specialized technical staff at JFDA's Special Dietary Foods Department closely monitor the advertisements of dietary supplements and special foods published on social media. This includes both unapproved products and advertisements that violate regulations based on the 2017 Special Dietary Foods Approval Instructions. The JFDA advises consumers to get in touch with the Administration prior to purchasing any products or herbal mixtures to ensure adherence to regulations. They caution promoters of these products, whether in physical markets or on social media platforms, against making unapproved, scientifically unsubstantiated, and deceptive claims that mislead consumers, as there may be legal repercussions. Additionally, individuals are encouraged to contact the JFDA for any observations, inquiries, or complaints related to this matter. They can utilize the toll-free complaint hotline at 117114, send an email to [email protected], or reach out via WhatsApp at (0795632000).
