JMD Urges Public to Follow Safety Guidelines During Thunderstorms

Mou'men al-hawari: The Director of the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD), Raed Al-Khattab, has urged citizens to strictly adhere to public safety guidelines during thunderstorms to protect their lives and avoid potential dangers.

According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Khattab stressed the importance of immediately seeking shelter indoors or inside a vehicle upon hearing thunder or seeing lightning. He emphasized the need to stay away from open areas, trees, electricity poles, and to avoid approaching bodies of water or swimming during thunderstorms.

He also advised against using electrical appliances and landline telephones inside homes while thunderstorms are ongoing. For motorists, Al-Khattab recommended reducing speed and stopping only in safe locations, away from trees and utility poles.

Al-Khattab noted that adhering to these safety instructions is among the most critical preventive measures to reduce the risks associated with thunderstorms.
