Bani Mustafa: Jordan has taken "remarkable" steps in developing an "appropriate" environment to support and empower women in all areas of life, Minister of Social Development, Head of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment, Wafa Bani Mustafa, said. The minister made the remarks while deputizing for Prime Minister in inaugurating "Women on the Front Lines" Conference on Sunday, which was organized by the May Chidiac Foundation (MCF), with a wide Arab and foreign participation.

According to Jordan News Agency, the minister emphasized the importance of women's presence in decision-making roles and their engagement in development and progress. She highlighted the need to recognize their role in leadership and the importance of creating an environment conducive to making their contributions more impactful.

The minister elaborated that the committee is aligned with the Kingdom's three reform tracks-political, economic, and administrative-led by His Majesty King Abdullah II. These efforts include the Women's Empowerment Strategy within the Economic Modernization Vision, aiming to increase women's participation to 28% by 2033.

In recent developments, the committee launched updated guidelines on combating violence against women in public life, including electoral and cyber violence. Jordan has been proactive in fulfilling its international obligations regarding human rights, ratifying multiple treaties to bolster women's participation in decision-making.

Additionally, the ministry has initiated national consultations on the draft of the updated National Social Protection Strategy (2025-2033), incorporating a new focus on responding to crises and shocks. Among its projects, the ministry is working on programs to empower women, including productivity enhancement initiatives to aid families in establishing businesses, the Oases Project, and the Makani Project, in collaboration with UNICEF and UN Women.
