Jordan Advocates for Ethical Nursing Migration at Asia-Pacific Health Conference

Taiz:The Jordanian Nursing Council (JNC) actively participated in the 14th Asia Pacific Action Alliance on Human Resources for Health (AAAHRH) conference, emphasizing the importance of ethical migration in the nursing sector. The conference, held in Indonesia, revolved around the theme of building a future-proof health workforce through governance, education, and digital transformation for sustainable health systems.

According to Jordan News Agency, Hani Nawafleh, Secretary-General of the JNC, highlighted the need for balancing international opportunities for Jordanian nurses with local career growth to maintain quality care. He emphasized the role of the JNC under HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein in linking education and qualifications to structured employment and professional development pathways.

Nawafleh discussed the 2026 Nursing and Midwifery Specialization and Technical Classification System in Jordan, which serves as a framework for regulating specialized tracks and maximizing skills across health institutions. He stressed the importance of effective mobility management, which involves monitoring the movement of healthcare staff within domestic sectors and internationally, using precise data on vacancies and specialties.

He also mentioned that the number of graduates does not alone determine the availability of nurses for overseas deployment. A specialized national committee on nursing migration has been established to align the national labor market needs with international career opportunities.

The JNC's Pearson VUE Test Center in Amman provides a platform for Jordanian nurses to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) locally. Nawafleh highlighted a collaboration with Cleveland Clinic London to assess and recruit Jordanian nurses for meeting UK professional standards, while advocating for broader partnerships that include training and knowledge exchange.

Nawafleh called for ethical recruitment practices, protection of worker rights, and joint investments in training between source and destination countries. He urged efforts to facilitate the return of experienced professionals to enhance education, training, and healthcare delivery, thereby turning brain drain into a capacity-building opportunity.
