Jordan and EFTA Sign Agreement to Update Free Trade Pact

Amman: Jordan's Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva, Akram Harahsheh, and the ambassadors of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member countries have signed amendments to the existing Free Trade Agreement between Jordan and EFTA.

According to Jordan News Agency, the amendments aim to modernise and update the agreement with EFTA member countries-namely Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Norway. This agreement, initially enacted in September 2002, was designed to enhance trade exchanges and economic opportunities between Jordan and EFTA countries.

The updated agreement reflects recent developments within the Euro-Mediterranean Free Trade Area framework. It ensures that the agreement's rules remain dynamic and aligned with more trade-friendly standards, fostering economic growth and prosperity for all parties involved.

Additionally, three bilateral agreements related to agriculture were signed between Jordan, Norway, Switzerland, and Iceland. These agreements are part of Jordan's ongoing efforts to strengthen its economic and trade relations with international partners, aiming to expand opportunities for Jordanian exports in European markets.
