Amman: Jordan's Minister of Transport and Minister of Labour, Nidal Qatamin, met with Lebanon's Minister of Labour, Mohammad Haidar, to discuss enhancing cooperation in the labour sector. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Labour, was also attended by Deputy Lebanese Ambassador to Jordan, Joelle Anton. Both ministers emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise to meet the evolving needs of their respective labour markets and agreed to maintain close coordination.
According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions focused on developing mechanisms to implement the memorandum of understanding on labour cooperation, which was signed during the eighth session of the Jordanian-Lebanese Joint Higher Committee in Beirut in 2026. Key areas of cooperation identified included vocational training, labour inspection, occupational safety and health, and support for self-employment initiatives targeting small and medium-sized enterprises. Additionally, the integration of persons with disabilities into the labour market was highlighted as a priority.
Minister Qatamin reiterated Jordan's commitment to maintaining close communication with Lebanon to ensure effective collaboration. Minister Haidar praised Jordan's efforts in fostering deeper cooperation through the memorandum of understanding, viewing it as a significant framework for the exchange of expertise and strengthening the labour partnership between the two nations.
