Jordan and Lebanon Unite to Demand End to Gaza Conflict and Oppose Palestinian Displacement

Amman: The leaders of Jordan and Lebanon have called for an immediate cessation of Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip, firmly opposing the displacement of Palestinians from the region. Jordanian King Abdullah II met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who arrived in Amman on an official visit, to discuss pressing regional issues.

According to Anadolu Agency, a statement released by Jordan's royal court highlighted the discussions between the two leaders, which focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional developments. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need for a halt to the Israeli offensive on Gaza and stressed the importance of providing adequate humanitarian aid to all areas within the enclave.

The discussions also involved a reaffirmation of their stance against any plans to displace Palestinians, urging intensified Arab and international efforts to achieve a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. Despite international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army continues its offensive in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of nearly 55,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, since October 2023.

King Abdullah expressed Jordan's unwavering support for Lebanon's efforts to maintain stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Upon his arrival, President Aoun informed the Jordanian state news agency Petra that his discussions would cover regional developments, support for the Lebanese army, and the situation surrounding Syrian refugees. He highlighted the critical nature of these discussions for the region, advocating for unified Arab efforts to address common crises, combat terrorism, and preserve stability.

President Aoun also indicated that the talks would explore military cooperation and seek a just solution for the Syrian refugee crisis impacting both nations, including their safe and dignified return to Syria. The Lebanese leader acknowledged Jordan's steadfast support for Lebanon in various domains.
