Riyadh: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jordan has formalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources to collaborate in the mineral wealth sector for a span of five years. This MoU was signed during the Fourth International Ministerial Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Mining Affairs, hosted in Riyadh under the auspices of King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
According to Jordan News Agency, the memorandum was signed by Jordan's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar bin Ibrahim Alkhorayef. The agreement outlines methods to strengthen cooperation in the realm of mineral wealth between the two nations.
The MoU aims to bolster the scientific and technical capabilities that will aid in the development and effective utilization of mineral resources, adhering to the existing regulations of both countries. A significant aspect of the agreement is to establish a collaborative framework for Jordan and Saudi Arabia in the mining sector, facilitating the exchange of technical expertise and legislative insights.
Further, the memorandum includes plans to conduct joint research and studies, design collaborative programs and workshops, and introduce modern technologies for mining operations. It also encompasses efforts to discover, evaluate, and exploit mineral ores efficiently. Training initiatives for geologists, mining engineers, and environmental specialists are also part of the agreement, focusing on environmentally sustainable mineral extraction practices.
