Amman: The Anti-Narcotics Departments of Jordan and Syria issued a joint statement on Sunday, reaffirming commitment to ongoing security and intelligence cooperation to combat drug trafficking and smuggling across the region.
According to Jordan News Agency, the statement emphasized the importance of joint action within the framework of bilateral security cooperation, rooted in a shared commitment to safeguarding societies from the growing threat of narcotics and the destabilizing impact they have on individual and regional security.
The two departments confirmed that their continued field coordination and intelligence sharing have yielded significant operational successes in recent months. Among the most notable achievements was the foiling of seven smuggling attempts along the shared border, which led to the seizure of approximately one million narcotic pills destined for illegal distribution across the region.
The statement further noted the dismantling of several organized criminal networks involved in regional drug trafficking, whose operations posed a direct threat to the security of both countries. A number of individuals linked to these criminal activities were arrested in both Jordan and Syria, effectively disrupting their plans to manufacture, smuggle, and distribute illegal drugs.
The departments hailed these achievements as a model of effective cooperation, reflecting a united front in addressing shared security challenges. They reaffirmed their commitment to continued joint operations, stressing the importance of intensifying efforts to track and apprehend individuals and networks attempting to exploit border regions for smuggling activities.
The statement underscored that combating drug trafficking is not solely a security issue, but a humanitarian, societal, and moral responsibility. The two sides called for enhanced regional and international cooperation and unified efforts to address the cross-border nature of the drug trade.
Concluding the statement, both Jordan and Syria reaffirmed their unwavering determination and leadership in the fight against drugs, pledging to protect their countries and future generations from the dangers posed by this growing menace.
