Amman: Jordan and Syria have embarked on a substantial journey to bolster their economic partnership, marking a deeper phase in their bilateral relations, as confirmed by the Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Senator Khalil Hajj Tawfiq. The collaboration was further emphasized during talks between His Majesty King Abdullah II and a Syrian ministerial delegation at the Joint Higher Coordination Council meeting held in Amman.
According to Jordan News Agency, Senator Hajj Tawfiq highlighted that His Majesty King Abdullah II's clear directive at the meeting underscored the importance of enhancing bilateral trade relations. The commercial and service sectors are poised to follow this directive and are committed to forging a clear path forward for economic relations that serve both nations' interests.
Senator Hajj Tawfiq announced a forthcoming visit to Syria to coordinate with the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce in establishing a joint Jordanian-Syrian Business Council. This council aims to strengthen joint relations in line with the leadership directives of both countries, while facilitating the signing of memoranda of understanding and agreements.
He emphasized the importance of achieving economic unity and integration beyond mere trade exchanges, pointing out that the JCC does not view reciprocity as the foundation for Jordanian-Syrian economic partnerships. Jordan stands ready to support Syria in its recovery and reconstruction efforts, with the Jordanian private sector eager to participate as a partner in these initiatives.
The newly established joint council is expected to play a crucial role in advancing relations and driving economic growth between the two nations. Senator Hajj Tawfiq urged the private sector to present proposals to decision-makers to enhance bilateral economic relations, addressing challenges in sectors such as trade and transportation.
