Amman:Minister of Education and Human Resource Development Azmi Mahafzah and Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa met with UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell to enhance collaboration in the fields of education, child protection, and social welfare under the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV).
According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions focused on upgrading the education system to better align with future job market demands by incorporating artificial intelligence and expanding inclusive education, particularly for children with disabilities. Efforts to ensure that girls remain in school were also emphasized.
Minister Bani Mustafa highlighted Jordan's achievements in social protection, mentioning the Early Childhood Development Policy and the establishment of early intervention units across the nation. She outlined key focus areas under the National Social Protection Strategy (2025-2033) and the National Multi-Sectoral Action Plan for the Prevention of and Response to Child Protection, Family Violence, and Violence against Women and Girls (2026-2030).
Catherine Russell commended Jordan's initiatives to promote children's rights and its significant role in hosting refugees, ensuring their access to essential services. She reiterated UNICEF's commitment to supporting the EMV, recognizing Jordan's success in achieving positive outcomes for children.
The talks also covered ways to transform school enrollment into quality learning experiences, create future job opportunities, and make social protection a gateway to essential services while protecting children from various forms of violence, including online threats. The potential of AI and technology in training teachers and transforming learning environments was discussed, along with the importance of focusing on children with disabilities and ensuring girls' education.
Additionally, the meeting addressed Jordan's contribution to early childhood development, including its participation in organizing the first Global Early Years Finance Summit in 2027, with a preparatory meeting of global champions set to take place in Amman.
