Amman: Department of Palestinian Affairs Director General, Rafiq Khirfan, met with Olaf Becker, Director of UN refugee agency (UNRWA) Affairs in Jordan, on Sunday to address the urgent needs and challenges facing Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan. Khirfan emphasized the necessity of increasing sanitation workers in the camps and advocated for joint field visits to better assess the needs of residents. He highlighted that such visits would facilitate direct contact with camp committee leaders to find solutions to pressing issues. According to Jordan News Agency, Khirfan condemned what he described as "a systematic campaign and political assassination" targeting UNRWA, criticizing Israeli measures as attempts to undermine the agency's role in supporting the Palestinian refugees' right to return and compensation in line with international resolutions. He referred to a decision by the Israeli Knesset to limit UNRWA's activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and to deny dipl omatic privileges to its staff, describing this as a severe breach of international law and Israel's obligations as the occupying power. Khirfan noted UNRWA's commitment to supporting Palestinian refugees despite the challenges and reaffirmed Jordan's unwavering support for the agency on both regional and international levels. Becker, in turn, praised the Jordanian government's strong support of UNRWA, noting a recent visit by the Prime Minister to the Hittin camp to address its most pressing needs and challenges.
