Amman: Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Monem Odat stated that the Jordanian state is focusing on the awareness of its youth and their capability to shape the future and serve as ambassadors of dialogue and responsibility within their universities and communities.
According to Jordan News Agency, Odat, during a meeting with students from the Middle East University as part of the university's "Middle East Dialogues" series, emphasized the importance of universities as centers of knowledge and constructive discussion. He stressed that differing opinions should promote responsible dialogue that reflects youth awareness and national belonging.
The meeting was attended by Chairman of the University's Board of Trustees Yacoub Nasereddin, University President Salam Mahadeen, Member of Parliament Tamara Nasereddin, and members of the university's academic and administrative staff.
Odat highlighted the vital role of universities in shaping student identities by providing essential skills and hosting interactive activities that enhance participation, positively influencing character development, and preparing students to play influential roles in public life. He noted that investing in youth awareness and belief in democracy ensures the sustainability of political reform and strengthens the values of citizenship necessary for building a modern state.
He pointed out that the comprehensive modernization project led by King Abdullah II offers a national framework for enhancing political participation and empowering youth, reinforcing a unified Jordanian national identity based on belonging, loyalty, and the rule of law.
Odat also underlined the importance of modern media in strengthening political participation, noting that young people are now more capable of expressing their aspirations. He stressed the need for youth to remain aware amid challenges to safeguard Jordan's social fabric and national identity.
Nasereddin commented on the outcomes of the Royal Committee to Modernize the Political System, highlighting the success of the emerging party system, as evidenced by the high percentage of House of Representatives members affiliated with political parties.
He added that political, economic, and administrative modernization tracks are progressing strategically toward a dynamic Jordan, aligned with King Abdullah II's vision. Nasereddin emphasized protecting this national experience from attempts to undermine it.
The session, moderated by Faculty of Media staff member Hani Albadri, concluded with an open discussion on youth, political participation, and prospects for democratic reform, where students showcased advanced critical perspectives and responsible political awareness.
