Jordan Celebrates International Nurses Day, Honoring Healthcare ‘Heroes’

Amman: The Ministry of Health marked International Nurses Day on Sunday at the Jordan Health Forum under the patronage of Minister of Health Firas Hawari, with wide participation across the medical and nursing sector.

According to Jordan News Agency, Ilham Khreisat, the ministry's Secretary-General for Administrative and Technical Affairs, emphasized the need to honor nurses for their "pivotal" role in the healthcare system and the ministry's ongoing reform and modernization efforts. She called nursing "a noble humanitarian profession" that requires commitment, discipline and faith, highlighting nurses' key contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She stressed the ministry's commitment to supporting nursing professionals through education and training, empowering them to take leadership roles regionally, and become active partners in healthcare policy and decision-making.

Director of Nursing at the Royal Medical Services, Brigadier General Basma Zoubi, commended longstanding support of HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein for the nursing profession in the Middle East, which has strengthened Jordan's status in the field. She stressed the humanitarian side of nursing and the dedication of practitioners.

Hani Nawafleh, Secretary-General of the Jordan Nursing Council, termed nursing "a cornerstone" of the health system, noting that this year's celebration underlines the connection between strong nursing services, economic growth, and improved healthcare outcomes. He urged continued investment in nursing and better work conditions.

Jihan Qaryouti, Director of Nursing at the Ministry of Health, reiterated the profession's critical role in the health system, stressing the ministry's ongoing efforts to boost staff competency and expand training in line with national strategies and royal directives.

The ceremony featured tributes to nursing staff and showcased two video presentations highlighting the impact of nurses in the healthcare system and their dedicated role both domestically and abroad.
