Amman: Jordan chaired a meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Energy Platform on Wednesday, held online under its co-presidency with the European Union as part of the Third Mediterranean Green Week, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said.

According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting brought together member states, European institutions, and energy sector partners to discuss enhancing joint action to address energy challenges and accelerate the transition toward more sustainable and resilient energy systems, Secretary-General of the ministry Amani Azzam said.

She emphasized that regional electricity interconnection remains a shared priority to enhance energy security, optimize the use of renewable resources, and support the region's energy transition. Azzam called for continued investment in interconnection projects and energy infrastructure.

Azzam highlighted the importance of collective action, strong partnerships, and sustained regional cooperation. She urged partners to continue supporting the EU initiative on renewable energy and clean technologies in the Mediterranean (T-MED).

The need for reliable and consistent energy data and statistics was also underlined by Azzam, who stated that quality data is essential for better planning, more efficient policymaking, progress measurement, and informed decision-making to support the energy transition.

Azzam commended the UfM Energy Platform working groups and expressed hope for further practical outcomes to strengthen regional cooperation in the energy sector.

Participants discussed the EU initiative on renewable energy and clean technologies in the Mediterranean, the energy statistics cooperation programme, working group plans, and EU-funded projects. They also reviewed progress on the regional energy action plan, national strategies, legislative reforms, investment needs, and interconnection projects.
