Amman: Mahmoud Ouran, Director-general of the Jordan Farmers Union (JFU), and Chinese Ambassador, Guo Wei, discussed on Monday expanding agricultural cooperation, opening new export opportunities, and launching joint farming projects.
According to Jordan News Agency, Ouran emphasized the union's efforts to tap into new Chinese markets for Jordanian horticultural products, particularly dates and olive oil. He highlighted China's advanced capabilities in manufacturing agricultural machinery and equipment, fertilizers, pesticides, veterinary medicines, and vaccines, which could benefit Jordanian agriculture.
The visit also aimed to leverage China's expertise in agricultural technology and smart farming. Ouran noted the importance of training and capacity-building in modern techniques, especially as climate change continues to impact the agricultural sector.
Further discussions between Ouran and Guo included establishing permanent Jordanian pavilions at the Canton Fair and Chinese agricultural cooperative exhibitions to promote Jordanian products. They also explored joint projects in tomato juice production, tomato drying, and a factory specializing in potato processing to utilize Jordan's surplus production.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening agricultural cooperation, benefiting farmers in both countries and supporting long-term food security.
