Jordan: Jordan condemned the storming of the Al Aqsa Mosque by extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and groups of extremist settlers, operating under the protection of Israeli occupation police. The intrusion has been described as a significant violation of the historical and legal status quo at the holy site.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates labeled the action a desecration of the mosque's sanctity and an unacceptable escalation. Ministry Spokesperson Fuad Majali emphasized Jordan's disapproval of these incursions facilitated by Israeli occupation police, calling them a blatant breach of international law and humanitarian law.
Majali highlighted Israel's attempts to alter the situation on the ground through the division of the mosque's temporal and spatial aspects. He warned of severe consequences and stressed that Israel does not hold sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian sites.
The spokesperson urged the international community to pressure Israel to halt illegal practices and ensure free access for worshippers. He reaffirmed that Al Aqsa Mosque, with an area of 144 dunams, remains a place of worship exclusively for Muslims. He noted that the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Administration of Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Sites is the sole authority to manage the mosque's affairs and control access.
