Amman: Jordan has strongly condemned recent inflammatory remarks by Israeli minister Bezalel Smotrich, in which he called for imposing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and expanding settlements. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates denounced the statements as a flagrant violation of international law and the Palestinian right to an independent, sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. According to Jordan News Agency, Ministry spokesperson, Sufian Qudah, reiterated Jordan's firm rejection of these provocative statements, emphasizing that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Palestinian territories. Qudah stressed that such statements and actions breach international law, UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli activities that alter the demographic and legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. Ambassador Qudah called on the international community to uph old its legal and moral responsibilities, urging it to hold Israel accountable for its actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and the West Bank, and to ensure the protection of the Palestinian people and their rights to an independent state on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.
