Jordan Condemns Israeli Seizure of Greek Orthodox Church Land in Silwan

Amman: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the Israeli occupation authorities' seizure of land belonging to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in the town of Silwan, located in occupied East Jerusalem. The ministry described the seizure as a violation of international law and international humanitarian law, as well as a breach of the historical and legal status quo.

According to Jordan News Agency, Fouad Majali, the official spokesperson for the ministry, expressed the Kingdom's rejection of unilateral and illegal measures by Israel. These measures, he stated, are aimed at altering the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites. He emphasized that Israel lacks sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Majali called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral obligations by compelling Israel to cease its actions deemed illegitimate and illegal in occupied Jerusalem. He highlighted the ongoing violations of the historical and legal status quo concerning the Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Furthermore, Majali stressed the importance of recognizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He affirmed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on their national soil is the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, ensuring security and stability in the region.
