Jordan Condemns Israeli Strikes on Syrian Military Airport

Amman: The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs on Tuesday condemned Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airport in Syria's Idlib province, as an unjustified aggression and a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty, territorial integrity and international law.

According to Jordan News Agency, in a statement, the ministry spokesman Fuad Majali said the strikes violate the United Nations Charter and mark a dangerous escalation that will only deepen conflict and tension in the region. He called for ending all repeated Israeli attacks and measures targeting Syria's security and stability.

Majali urged the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities by compelling Israel to halt illegitimate, provocative attacks on Syria and end its occupation of Syrian territory.

He said Israel must abide by international law, U.N. resolutions, and the principle of noninterference in the affairs of sovereign states.

On its stance, he reiterated Jordan's "steadfast" support for Syria's reconstruction on a foundation that preserves its unity, sovereignty, security, stability, territorial integrity and the rights of all Syrians.
