Jordan Confirms Role in U.S. Airstrikes on ISIS in Syria

Amman: Jordan on Saturday confirmed its participation in U.S. airstrikes targeting ISIS positions in southern Syria, with the operation designed to prevent the extremists from re-establishing a foothold that could threaten regional security. In a statement, the Jordanian army announced that Royal Jordanian Air Force aircraft conducted precision airstrikes early Friday against several targets belonging to the terror group in southern Syria.

According to Anadolu Agency, the strikes were executed in cooperation with the U.S. as part of the international coalition against ISIS. The U.S. initiated the military operation in Syria following a deadly attack on American forces on December 13 near the central Syrian city of Palmyra. Though specific details, such as the exact location or number of casualties from the American strike, have not been disclosed, the joint action underscores ongoing efforts to counter ISIS threats.

Syria has affirmed its commitment to intensifying military operations against ISIS across all areas where the group poses a threat. The Syrian government reiterated its dedication to combating the terror group and ensuring its territory is not used as a safe haven for terrorists.
