Amman: Jordan has been recognized as a “global model in sustainability policies,” excelling in carbon neutrality initiatives and the green hydrogen industry, as well as supporting innovation among Arab youth in renewable energy and energy efficiency, according to Mohammed Al-Taani, the Secretary-General of the Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC).
According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Taani emphasized that Jordan is significantly ahead globally in renewable energy investments relative to its energy demand. The country serves as a “practical model” with its advancements in renewable energy, electric-powered vehicles, and the increasing adoption of solar energy for electricity generation and water heating.
AREC is committed to aligning with global developments through modern legislation that encourages investment in renewable energy projects, smart cities, electric vehicles, green education, and innovative agriculture aimed at ensuring food security. Al-Taani announced that the 10th Arab Renewable Energy Forum will take place in Manama, Bahrain, from November 3-5, bringing together a diverse group of consumers, operators, suppliers, and decision-makers to address challenges in energy efficiency and renewable energy policies.
The forum, in collaboration with the Bahrain Electricity and Water Authority and the Arabian Gulf University, will tackle numerous key issues, focusing on the energy transition in the Arab world to secure a sustainable future. Green education will also be highlighted as a fundamental element for achieving sustainable development.
Al-Taani noted that the forum aims to establish a regional center serving as a platform for researchers, engineers, economists, businesspeople, educators, and decision-makers. This center will strive to fulfill AREC’s objectives, enhance public awareness of renewable energy and energy efficiency, and disseminate knowledge across the Arab region.
Moreover, the forum seeks to boost green innovation technologies, create opportunities for renewable energy use in Arab countries, and establish a specialized body for vocational education and training, aiming for regional accreditation. The 15th meeting of AREC’s Executive Bureau will also be part of the forum’s activities.
