Jordan, EU to Co-Chair UfM 10th Regional Forum in Barcelona

Barcelona: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi and the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, will co-chair the 10th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in Barcelona. This event coincides with the 30th anniversary of the launch of the Barcelona Declaration.

According to Jordan News Agency, foreign ministers from member states will address key regional challenges, particularly focusing on the Middle East situation. They are expected to adopt a new strategic vision for the Union aimed at strengthening regional cooperation across three main pillars: connecting people through education, mobility, and skills; connecting states through regional dialogue, energy and water security, and climate resilience; and connecting economies via trade, investment, infrastructure, and digital cooperation.

The forum will feature participation from the Union's Secretary-General Nasser Kamel and the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka ?uica. Spain, represented by Foreign Minister Jos© Manuel Albares, will host the forum and sign a new agreement with the Secretary-General for the headquarters of the General Secretariat.

On Friday morning, the European Union plans to launch the "Charter for the Mediterranean" during a special ministerial meeting.
