Amman: The draw for the 74th Jordan Pro League football season, scheduled for 2026-2027, was conducted on Saturday, setting up a highly anticipated opening match between Al-Faisaly and Al-Wehdat. As defending champions, Al Hussein SC (Al Hussein Irbid) will commence their title defense against Al-Jazira.
According to Jordan News Agency, ten teams will compete in the league for the second consecutive year, including Al Hussein Irbid, Al-Faisaly, Al-Wehdat, Ramtha, Salt, Al-Jazira, Shabab Al-Urdon, Al-Baqaa, Al-Arabi, and Douqara. A significant development this season is the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in domestic competitions.
The draw ceremony, attended by club representatives and members of the Jordan Football Association (JFA) board, was conducted electronically for only the second time in the history of domestic competitions. Former national team and Al Hussein Irbid player Muneeb Ghraibeh participated in the event. The initial phase will feature matches such as Al Hussein Irbid against Al-Jazira, and Al-Faisaly against Al-Wehdat, among others.
The competition will conclude with a three-phase format, where each team will play 27 matches in total. The team with the most points at the end of the season will be declared the champion. Al-Faisaly and Al-Wehdat are set to face off three times during the season across different phases.
Al-Faisaly, with a record 35 league titles, remains one of the most successful clubs, followed by Al-Wehdat with 17 titles. The JFA has designated three main stadiums for the first phase matches: Amman International Stadium, King Abdullah II Stadium, and Petra Stadium, with additional venues considered based on their readiness.
In the Jordan Super Cup, Al-Faisaly and Al-Wehdat are drawn together in the first semifinal, taking place on August 21. The other semifinal will see Al Hussein Irbid face Ramtha on August 22, with the final scheduled for August 28 at Amman International Stadium.
The 43rd edition of the Super Cup will involve the league champion, Jordan Cup winner, Shield champion, and league runners-up, adopting a new competition format. Al-Faisaly leads the Super Cup tally with 17 titles, with Al-Wehdat close behind at 15.
The Jordan Cup preliminary-round draw, involving teams from various divisions, has already been held, with the competition set to begin in early September. The draw ceremony began with the national anthem and featured the participation of Mustafa Ibrahim, a child cancer survivor, who shared his joy in taking part and his experience supporting the national team.
