Amman: Fayez Nahar, chairman of the Service and Public Administration Commission (SPAC), highlighted the significance of the Sharjah Award for Public Finance in advancing government administration during a training workshop on the award. Organized by the Arab League's Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO) in cooperation with the Sharjah government in the United Arab Emirates and SPAC, Nahar described the award as a leading Arab model for promoting excellence, efficiency, governance, transparency, and financial sustainability in public fund management.
According to Jordan News Agency, Nahar emphasized that the award serves as more than a recognition tool; it acts as a platform for exchanging expertise and transferring successful practices. The workshop aligns with national efforts to modernize public administration and shift towards an efficiency-based approach, aiming to maximize the impact of public spending. He also stressed Jordanian institutions' and professionals' capacity to compete and achieve outstanding results in the award, noting the Cabinet's approval of a list of national and international awards as a significant milestone in fostering a culture of excellence in the public sector.
Nahar further explained that linking the public finance award to an exceptional performance incentive system enhances its importance and motivates institutions and employees to achieve measurable, high-quality outcomes. He appreciated the efforts of the award delegation in promoting excellence and institutional performance culture in the public sector.
Nasser Kashwani, director of the Financial Training Center at Sharjah's Central Finance Department, stated that the launch of the fourth edition's promotional tour in Jordan demonstrates respect for the country's expertise. The tour aims to introduce the award's categories and criteria to public finance authorities across Arab capitals. Kashwani noted that the award, marking its tenth year, expanded its categories significantly from its inception and has garnered participation from 494 participants, honoring 81 winners over three editions.
Hassan Diab, Head of the Specialised Awards Group, representing ARADO's director-general, expressed that the award has become a pivotal platform for embedding excellence in public finance management across Arab government agencies. Diab underscored the award's growing relevance amid economic challenges in the Arab world, calling for strengthened governance and sustainable financial solutions. He reaffirmed ARADO's commitment to supporting Arab government performance through its partnership with Sharjah's Central Finance Department.
The workshop aimed to introduce the award, its application requirements, objectives, and evaluation criteria, alongside reviewing best practices in public finance. It was attended by representatives from government bodies overseeing public fund management, as well as quality and institutional excellence.
