Amman: The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army successfully carried out a medical evacuation operation on Tuesday for six child cancer patients from Gaza, accompanied by 19 family members. This operation is part of the ongoing Jordan Medical Corridor initiative aimed at providing necessary medical treatment.
According to Jordan News Agency, the patients and their families were facilitated at the King Hussein Bridge, the border crossing between Jordan and the Palestinian territories. The operation was conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation (WHO). Following their reception, the Royal Jordanian Air Force helicopters transported them to Marka Airport, after which they were taken to the King Hussein Cancer Centre for treatment.
The evacuation was executed adhering to stringent protocols, with specialised medical staff overseeing the transfer and care of the patients. To date, the Jordan Medical Corridor initiative has facilitated the medical evacuation of 39 children and 75 family members to Jordan. Of these, 17 children have successfully completed their treatment and returned to Gaza with their families.
The initiative, which commenced in March this year, aims to provide medical care to 2,000 children from Gaza at hospitals in Jordan, offering them a chance to receive treatment not readily available in their home region.
