Amman:Jordan has made significant progress in the 2026 Global Innovation Index, reaching 60th place globally out of 139 economies and securing 5th position within the Arab world.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship announced that Jordan advanced five places from 65th in 2025 and improved 13 places over two years, having been ranked 73rd in 2024. Since 2019, Jordan has climbed 26 places, initially being in the 86th position globally.
By achieving the 60th spot, Jordan has surpassed its target for the index, which aimed for a global ranking of 63 by 2033, accomplishing this goal seven years ahead of schedule. Within the Arab region, Jordan follows the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Morocco.
The 2026 Global Innovation Index report identified Jordan as one of the economies demonstrating the strongest sustained progress since 2019. Jordan's entry into the top 60 economies globally was attributed to its focus on a more knowledge-based development path. Notably, Jordan ranked first in the scientific and technical articles indicator, and the WIPO recognized the Kingdom for its innovation performance exceeding expectations relative to its economic development level.
This progress aligns with a national initiative to enhance the technology and innovation ecosystem, guided by the National Council for Future Technology under the oversight of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. The Ministry of Digital Economy is responsible for monitoring Jordan's performance on the Global Innovation Index and implementing an improvement plan in collaboration with national partners. This plan supports the Economic Modernization Vision's goals.
The Cabinet has approved the revised improvement plan for Jordan's performance on the index and has circulated it to relevant institutions. These entities are tasked with integrating national efforts to develop the innovation ecosystem and improve Jordan's competitiveness on international indices.
This achievement is the result of collaborative national efforts among government institutions, the private sector, universities, research bodies, and stakeholders in the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. It supports Jordan's vision of an economy increasingly driven by knowledge, technology, and innovation.
