Amman: Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Saud signed a consultancy services agreement on Sunday, financed by the German Development Bank (KfW), valued at £4.5 million. The contract aims to prepare tender documents and oversee the implementation of water loss reduction projects in Mafraq, in collaboration with the private sector.
According to Jordan News Agency, Abu Saud stated that the project is a top government priority aimed at enhancing service delivery, achieving the Economic Modernization Vision, and advancing Jordan's 2023-2040 National Water Strategy. The initiative seeks to improve water management efficiency, minimize wastage, and ensure the sustainability of services.
The contracted firm, Engicon, will be responsible for developing strategy and implementation plans, restructuring networks, and rehabilitating and replacing pipelines. They will also install domestic and main meters, introduce digital control systems, deploy modern leak detection equipment, and supervise performance to meet environmental, social, and health standards. Additionally, Engicon will train staff to boost the technical capacity and network efficiency of Yarmouk Water Company.
Abu Saud expressed appreciation for the cooperation between Jordan and Europe and acknowledged the KfW's role in securing the necessary funding. He conveyed the government's gratitude for their continued support.
