Amman: The Jordanian-Spanish Friendship Committee in the Senate, chaired by Senator Abla Amawi, met Thursday with Spanish Ambassador to the Kingdom, Miguel de Lucas Gonz¡lez. Amawi emphasized the strong bilateral relations and the advanced level of coordination between the two nations on various issues of mutual concern. She highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in parliamentary, investment, educational, and cultural fields, while also promoting religious tourism.
According to Jordan News Agency, Amawi acknowledged the significant efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to achieve peace, security, and stability in the region, and she praised Spain's supportive stance toward Jordan. She commended Spain's support of the Palestinian cause and efforts to end the Israeli war on Gaza, along with its advocacy for a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
Amawi called for enhancing the exchange of expertise, particularly in the renewable energy sector, increasing trade volume, and attracting investment that benefits both countries and aligns with their aspirations. Ambassador de Lucas Gonz¡lez affirmed the depth of Jordanian-Spanish relations and the strong ties between their leaderships, which have forged a robust strategic partnership.
He noted that the signing of the joint declaration on the strategic partnership between Jordan and Spain, attended by His Majesty King Abdullah II and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S¡nchez in Madrid, is an important step toward elevating bilateral ties to a strategic level. This partnership spans developmental, economic, commercial, social, cultural, and defense fields, contributing to shared interests and regional stability.
Ambassador de Lucas Gonz¡lez expressed appreciation for Jordan's steadfast regional and international positions under King Abdullah II's leadership. He stressed that peace in the region can only be achieved through a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue. Committee members emphasized the need to broaden cooperation between Jordan and Spain across various sectors, reaffirming Jordan's unwavering positions on regional matters, particularly the Palestinian cause, and commending Spain's constructive role in supporting Arab issues in international forums.
