Amman: Jordan is set to commence its 2026 General Population and Housing Census on October 1, as announced by the Cabinet. This census will continue until October 31, marking a significant national effort to update and provide a comprehensive picture of population and housing data across the Kingdom.
According to Jordan News Agency, the census will start with a three-day online self-enumeration phase. An electronic link, sent through the Sanad application, will allow individuals who have opted for self-enumeration to complete their data systematically. Following this phase, field enumeration will begin, involving approximately 12,000 personnel, including employees from the Department of Statistics, teachers, and other institutional staff.
The census is designed not just to count the population but to offer a detailed view of Jordanian society, generating data crucial for planning services and projects, particularly in sectors like education, health, and infrastructure. Reliable data provided by Jordanians will be treated with utmost confidentiality and is essential for effective planning and decision-making.
Concurrently, the Cabinet has approved several initiatives aimed at modernizing various sectors. A notable development is the establishment of a JD120 million steel pipe and insulation factory, which is a step towards implementing the National Water Carrier Project. This factory will create around 420 jobs and produce pipes for future water and gas pipeline projects.
In a move to encourage organ donation, the Cabinet has also approved the addition of an organ donation service to the Sanad application. This service will allow Jordanians to digitally register their willingness to donate organs, leveraging digital transformation to support humanitarian efforts.
Furthermore, the Cabinet has approved administrative bylaws for both the Department of the Chief Justice and the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority for 2026. These bylaws aim to modernize organizational procedures, enhance institutional performance, and support sustainable development, ensuring Jordan's readiness to meet current and future demands.
