Jordan Unveils Strategy to Boost Chemical and Cosmetics Exports

Accra:The National Strategy for the Chemical and Cosmetics Industry (2027-2029) has been launched, aiming to enhance the sector's productivity and achieve export goals of over JOD 2 billion (USD 2.82 billion) by 2029. The strategy includes six foundational programs focusing on operational efficiency, high-value manufacturing, and industrial integration.

According to Jordan News Agency, the strategy was developed by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply in collaboration with the Jordan Chamber of Industry and various public-private stakeholders. It emphasizes structural modernization to boost the sector's contribution to national economic growth.

Central to the strategy is the Kafa'a efficiency program, which aims to reduce industrial energy costs by 15 percent and increase labor productivity by 20 percent by 2029. This will be achieved through smart manufacturing and predictive maintenance. The A'ali Al-Qimah initiative focuses on increasing premium product sales from 15 to 25 percent of total output, targeting specialized intermediate chemicals, smart fertilizers, biopesticides, and high-value Dead Sea derivatives.

To enhance local supply chains, the Takamul integration program aims to increase local content above 15 percent by connecting manufacturing operations with national mineral resources and establishing internationally accredited laboratories. The Tamkeen empowerment program seeks to double new capital inflows through concessional financing, streamlined regulatory frameworks, and improved technology transfer.

The Nafath export program focuses on geographic diversification and better utilization of trade agreements to surpass the JOD 2 billion export target. The Imtithal compliance framework supports this goal by aligning domestic industrial processes with global environmental standards, including the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), through advanced carbon footprint measurement and international accreditation.

This strategy follows the Ministry's recent introduction of three sectoral strategies for engineering, food, and chemical manufacturing. These strategies are designed to implement the High-Value Industries engine under the Economic Modernization Vision, with the aim of stimulating private investment, increasing industrial output, and creating sustainable employment.
