Amman: The Jordanian-Uzbekistani Leather and Garment Industries Forum opened in Amman, bringing together officials and business leaders to boost investment and trade cooperation.
According to Jordan News Agency, Ihab Qadri, representative of the Leather and Garment Industries Sector at the Jordan Chamber of Industry, highlighted Jordan's attractive investment climate, attributed to its strategic location and extensive network of trade agreements that provide access to over 1.5 billion consumers globally. He emphasized that international cooperation is key to achieving sustainable and comprehensive development.
Qadri mentioned that the Uzbekistani delegation's visit is a result of His Majesty King Abdullah II's visit to Uzbekistan, which has paved the way for a new chapter in bilateral relations, laying the foundation for a deeper strategic partnership. He also pointed out Jordan's advancements under the Economic Modernization Vision, which positions industry as a catalyst for job creation, export growth, and integration into global value chains. The sector currently generates more than $2.5 billion in annual exports, employs over 90,000 skilled workers, and records a value-added rate exceeding 42 percent.
He added that the forum signifies the beginning of enhanced cooperation in forming joint ventures between Jordanian and Uzbek companies, integrating supply chains in textiles and raw materials, increasing investments in training and knowledge transfer, and organizing joint trade missions and exhibitions to explore new markets. Qadri assured that the Jordan Chamber of Industry is prepared to support the Uzbekistani delegation in making this partnership a model of success.
Sanal Kumar, President of the Jordan Garment Exporters Association, remarked that Jordan hosts numerous textile factories and serves as a gateway to the American and European markets. He added that bilateral cooperation could initially reach half a billion US dollars and has the potential to exceed eight billion US dollars by 2033.
