Jordan Warns Against Israel’s Advancement of E1 Settlement Plan

Amman: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates warned on Wednesday against Israel's decision to advance a settlement plan in the so-called E1 area east of occupied Jerusalem, which involves construction of more than 3,000 new housing units. The settlement project is a violation of international law that undermines the two-state solution and the Palestinians' right to set up an independent, sovereign state on June 4, 1967, lines, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital, it said.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry's official spokesperson, Sufian Qudah, reiterated Jordan's rejection and condemnation of any Israeli attempt to impose control over the West Bank and separate its north from its south. He stated that this constitutes a violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions, particularly resolution 2334, which decried Israeli measures aimed to alter the demographic composition, character, and status of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1976, including East Jerusalem. The Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice affirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation and the invalidity of settlement construction and annexation measures in the West Bank.

Qudah also referred to media reports on the transfer of authority to administer and supervise the Ibrahimi Mosque to Israeli settler groups, describing it as a continuation of unilateral policies that violate international law and relevant UN resolutions. He noted that this was an attempt to extend Israeli control over the entire Ibrahimi Mosque and alter its Islamic and Arab identity.

He emphasized that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory and that all Israeli measures in the West Bank are illegitimate and illegal. The spokesman urged the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibility to compel Israel and its government to halt its aggression against the Gaza Strip, its escalation, and its expansionist scheme in the occupied West Bank.

Qudah called for providing protection to the Palestinian people, realizing their legitimate right to establish an independent state on their national soil, halting the crimes against them, and holding those responsible accountable.
