Amman: A Royal Jordanian Air Force Black Hawk helicopter on Thursday carried out a search, rescue, and medical evacuation mission after a small passenger plane crashed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
According to Jordan News Agency, the helicopter, part of the Jordanian unit Congo/2 serving with the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), was dispatched following a request from UN leadership. The action was taken after local Congolese forces faced difficulties reaching the remote crash site.
The search and rescue team took off from Beni-Mavivi Airport and flew nearly 200 kilometers to reach the downed aircraft. The mission successfully airlifted the injured pilot and mechanic, as well as retrieved the co-pilot's body, bringing them back to Beni-Mavivi Airport for medical treatment and processing.
MONUSCO leadership commended the Jordanian unit for their high level of professionalism, rapid response, and operational efficiency during the operation. This deployment is part of the Jordan Armed Forces - Arab Army's broader commitment to international peacekeeping and humanitarian support operations.
