Jordanian and Syrian Parliamentary Leaders Discuss Bilateral Cooperation in Istanbul

Istanbul: First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House, Khamis Atieh, met with the head of the Syrian parliamentary delegation, Saadi Sukkarieh, during the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Istanbul. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the assembly's sessions.

According to Jordan News Agency, Atieh, leading the Jordanian delegation, emphasized Jordan's commitment under the leadership of King Abdullah II to the security and stability of Syria and securing mutual borders. He highlighted Jordan's readiness to support Syria by offering expertise across various sectors for the nation's reconstruction.

Atieh stressed Jordan's solidarity with the Syrian people and leadership, urging Syrian authorities to enhance border security and curb drug smuggling activities. Maysoun Qawabah, Assistant Speaker of the Lower House, reiterated the strong Jordanian-Syrian ties and advocated for the removal of trade barriers and collaboration on anti-drug efforts.

MP Salem Omari expressed pride in the longstanding relations with Syria, noting Jordan's support for Syria's reconstruction. He praised Damascus's efforts in rebuilding and emphasized Jordan's role in fostering regional stability and exploring opportunities for bilateral integration.

The head of the Syrian delegation acknowledged the profound relations with Jordan and expressed a desire to leverage Jordan's expertise in education, health, and security sectors for Syria's benefits.
