Amman: On Wednesday, the Jordanian-Uzbekistani Leather and Garment Industries Forum began in Amman. Ihab Qadri, representing the Jordan Chamber of Industry's Leather and Garment Industries Sector, highlighted Jordan's strategic geographic position and its extensive trade agreements, which provide access to over 1.5 billion customers globally, making it an attractive investment destination. He emphasized that international collaboration is crucial for achieving sustainable growth.
According to Jordan News Agency, Qadri noted that the forum serves as a significant opportunity for communication and is a direct result of His Majesty King Abdullah II's visit to Uzbekistan, which strengthened the relationship between the two nations and laid the groundwork for a strategic alliance. He pointed out that Jordan is progressing under the Economic Modernization Vision, which views industry as a key driver for job creation, export growth, and integration into global value chains.
Qadri highlighted the success of Jordan's leather and garment sector, which boasts hundreds of enterprises generating over $2.5 billion in exports annually, with an 8% growth in the first half of this year alone. The sector employs over 90,000 skilled workers and plays a vital role in the national economy, achieving a value-added rate of over 42%. He mentioned that the forum aims to foster deeper collaboration through joint ventures, supply chain integration, increased training, and empowerment of youth and women in the sector.
The Jordan Chamber of Industry is assisting the Uzbekistani delegation by offering resources and expertise to ensure the success of this collaboration. Qadri expressed hope that this meeting marks the beginning of a strong, productive, and lasting partnership between Jordan and Uzbekistan.
Sanal Kumar, President of the Jordan Garment Exporters Association, stated that the forum is ideal for establishing genuine cooperation and elevating efforts to the next level. He emphasized Jordan's role as a gateway to American and European markets and its significant textile industry presence. Kumar projected that the cooperation could start at around half a billion dollars and potentially grow to over eight billion dollars by 2033.
Hazem Rahahleh, Director-General of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, underscored the importance of the Uzbek delegation's visit in strengthening ties and creating new trade and investment opportunities. He emphasized the shared vision for sustainable economic growth between Jordan and Uzbekistan, which can enhance trade relations and contribute to regional prosperity.
Jasur Rustambekov, Vice President of the Association of Textile and Clothing Industry of Uzbekistan, expressed optimism that the forum will be a catalyst for long-term collaboration in textile production and export. He noted the potential for both nations to access markets with a combined population of around one billion and benefit from integrating Uzbek businesses into Jordanian supply chains.
