Amman: First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Khamis Atiyeh articulated that Jordan's Independence Day marks a pivotal national milestone in the history of the modern Jordanian state. This milestone signifies the nation's path of development and modernization under the wise Hashemite leadership, which is rooted in legitimacy, the rule of law, and respect for human dignity.
According to Jordan News Agency, Atiyeh spoke during a celebration organized by the Jordan Educational Society and members of the local council of Al-Hussein Police Station to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Independence and other national occasions. He highlighted Jordan's steady advancement, attributing it to the prudent Hashemite leadership, the dedicated populace, the Arab Army, and professional security institutions that embody sacrifice and national belonging.
Atiyeh emphasized that independence represents the story of a nation that has forged its sovereign decision through the will of its people, continuing a sustained process of state-building despite numerous challenges. This has established a modern state that enjoys regional and international respect and confidence.
He further noted that under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, Jordan has maintained security and stability in a region characterized by conflict and transformations, positioning itself as a model of moderation, wisdom, and balance. These achievements, he said, result from a clear leadership vision, continuous efforts, and significant sacrifices by the Jordan Armed Forces, security agencies, and citizens.
Reflecting on the anniversary of King Abdullah II's accession to the throne, Atiyeh highlighted progress in political, economic, and administrative modernization, which has strengthened the state's capacity to sustain development and tackle emerging challenges.
He stressed that the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and the security services have always served as the nation's protective shield and guardians of its achievements. He also noted that the Great Arab Revolt was the starting point of a national journey led by the Hashemites and rooted in freedom, renaissance, and dignity values foundational to the modern Jordanian state.
Atiyeh asserted that Jordan continues to fulfill its Arab and humanitarian role in defending national causes, especially the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, while advancing state-building, modernization, institutional development, the rule of law, and broader political participation.
Jordan Educational Society President Mahmoud Al-Zboun remarked that Jordanians commemorate key historical milestones on this occasion, particularly the Great Arab Revolt, which espoused freedom, unity, and renaissance under Sharif Hussein bin Ali's leadership. He lauded the Arab Army's steadfastness to the Revolt's principles and mission, emphasizing Jordan's ongoing journey of development and achievement under its Hashemite leadership.
Local council member of Al-Hussein Police Station, Rawhi Al-Qadoumi, extended congratulations to King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II on these national occasions. He affirmed that Jordan continues its modernization and development journey under the King's leadership, with the Palestinian cause remaining a priority.
The celebration included a documentary on Jordan's independence, patriotic poems by poets Saeed Yacoub and Hassan Salameh, folkloric and musical performances by the Greater Amman Municipality Heritage Group and Princess Alia School students, and concluded with honoring participating individuals and institutions.
