Amman: The Eastern Military Zone, responsible for a section of Jordan's border, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle substantial quantities of narcotics from Syria into Jordan on Wednesday.

According to Jordan News Agency, a military source from the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF)-Arab Army reported that border guard forces, in collaboration with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), managed to prevent the illegal crossing and smuggling of a significant amount of drugs.

The source detailed that a group of smugglers was detected trying to illegally penetrate the Kingdom's border. Rapid response patrols were dispatched and engaged according to established rules of engagement, resulting in the smugglers retreating back into Syrian territory.

Following a thorough search and inspection, a large quantity of narcotics was seized. The seized drugs were then handed over to the relevant authorities in Jordan for further action.
