Amman: The Media Advisor to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Adnan Abu Hasna, has highlighted the critical role of Jordan in supporting the agency's ongoing operations. This support acts as a significant barrier against recent Israeli legislative efforts that could disrupt UNRWA's activities. According to Jordan News Agency, Abu Hasna emphasized King Abdullah II's influential advocacy for Palestinian refugees in various international and regional forums. He commended the proactive efforts of Jordanian diplomacy, acknowledging Jordan as the primary host for Palestinian refugees. Abu Hasna expressed concern over a series of laws passed by the Israeli Knesset, describing them as unprecedented and potentially harmful to UNRWA's relationship with a UN member state. Abu Hasna warned that the enactment of these Israeli laws could bring UNRWA's operations in affected regions to a standstill. He highlighted the essential role UNRWA plays in providing education, health, and r elief services. In particular, he pointed out that around 350,000 students are currently enrolled in UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, supported by 18,000 employees. The advisor's statement underscores the importance of Jordan's unwavering support in ensuring the continuity of UNRWA's services, which are vital for the well-being of Palestinian refugees across the region.
