JSAMG Highlights Thrombosis and Physician Repatriation at Scientific Evening

Amman:The Jordanian Society of American Medical Graduates (JSAMG), affiliated with the Jordan Medical Association, recently hosted a scientific evening focused on thrombosis risks, prevention strategies, and treatment advances. The event was attended by medical specialists and featured notable speakers, including Prof. Dr. Hazem Al-Ashhab, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Birzeit University in Palestine.

According to Jordan News Agency, the event also spotlighted the experiences of US-trained Jordanian physicians who have returned to practice in Jordan. Discussions centered on the opportunities and challenges these physicians face, as well as strategies to leverage their international expertise to improve Jordan's healthcare sector.

JSAMG President Dr. Mohammad Amer Khatib emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific networks among practitioners, facilitating knowledge transfer, and utilizing expertise gained from American medical institutions to enhance local patient care standards.

In marking World Thrombosis Day, JSAMG Vice President Dr. Sana Al-Sukhun delivered a keynote lecture on thrombosis, detailing risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment protocols. She explained that thrombosis, commonly manifesting as Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in the legs, can lead to serious complications if a clot travels to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism (PE).

Dr. Al-Sukhun outlined various risk factors for thrombosis, including prolonged immobility, major surgeries, and chronic illnesses. She also discussed preventative measures such as early post-operative mobilization and targeted pharmacological prophylaxis. Recent therapeutic developments, including modern oral anticoagulants, were reviewed, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and adherence to therapies.

The event concluded with a panel discussion titled "Practicing Medicine in Jordan Over a Decade After Returning from the US Challenges, Opportunities, and Lessons Learned." The panel featured Dr. Maher Sughayer from the King Hussein Cancer Center, Dr. Arafat Samara from the private sector, and Prof. Dr. Fareed Khdair from the University of Jordan. Panelists shared insights on integrating advanced clinical methods into Jordan's healthcare system and emphasized the need to support medical education and professional development for returning physicians.
